Why Borgella Street Journal Exists
NOTE 01
Streetlight Notes · Free · Every two weeks · borgellastreet.com
There is a version of this introduction that starts with credentials. The doctorate. The books. The years in uniform. That version exists to establish authority before making an argument.
This is not that version.
Borgella Street Journal exists because of a problem I could not stop thinking about. Not an abstract problem. A specific, observable, repeating one. Intelligent people, people who understood exactly what they needed to do, kept not doing it. And then they blamed themselves for the gap.
I watched this happen in organizational settings for two decades. People would come out of a workshop with clear action items, a renewed sense of purpose, and genuine commitment. Six weeks later, almost nothing had changed. The insight had not translated into behavior. The behavior had not compounded into results. The results had not arrived to confirm the insight. And somewhere in that failure cycle, the person concluded that the problem was them.
It was not them. It was the architecture. Or rather, the absence of it.
Most people are not lazy. They are unarchitected. Their days are not deliberately designed to produce the outcomes they want. Their environments were not built to support the behaviors they intend. Their identities were not updated to reflect the people they are trying to become. And so they rely on willpower and motivation to fill the structural gap, and willpower and motivation are the most unreliable tools available for a job that requires something much more durable.
That is the problem Borgella Street Journal exists to address.
Not through inspiration. Not through another framework you read once and forget. Through long-form essays that take the problem seriously enough to examine it historically, scientifically, philosophically, and practically. Five essays per issue. Four issues per year. Every piece ending with something you can do today.
The first issue is about identity. Not because identity is the most obvious entry point into habits and behavior, but because it is the most important one. The essays in Issue 01 argue that the self is not discovered. It is constructed. And the construction happens through repeated small actions, maintained over time, in an environment designed to support them.
That argument is why this publication exists. And it is what every issue, every article, and every note in this newsletter will be building toward.
